Seminar cancellation
Seminar cancellations made by October 29 will receive a refund less a $50 cancellation fee. Cancellations made after Oct 29 — after material download link has been emailed, will receive a refund less a $150 cancellation/written material fee. No-shows will be sent the MP3 audio download link.

Scholarships for OCDLA Members
Scholarships are available to OCDLA members only for the CLE registration portion only. Contact OCDLA by September 30 concerning partial scholarships or extended payment plans for the CLE portion of this event.

Confirmed Speakers —

• Juval Scott, Federal Public Defender or the District of Virginia, Roanoke, VA

Juval O. Scott joined the Training Division of the Defender Services Office as an Attorney Advisor in January 2015. She has worked as an Assistant Federal Defender (AFD) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and in the Southern District of Indiana. Before joining the federal defender family, Juval worked as an associate in a small firm handling criminal, personal injury, and family law matters; as a deputy prosecutor in Lafayette, Indiana; and as Associate General Counsel for a private investigation firm focusing on trademark litigation. Ms. Scott received her law degree in 2002 from Indiana Universitys Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Juval teaches regularly at the National Criminal Defense College, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Bronx Defenders among others. This year the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals selected her to be the next Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Virginia.

• Dyke Huish, Huish Law Firm, Mission Viejo, CA
Dyke Huish is a nationally recognized expert in the area of he psychology of jury trials and criminal defense. A prolific speaker, he trained thousands of criminal and civil attorneys across the United States on trial tactics, courtroom strategies, story telling techniques, cross- examination and jury psychology. In 1993 he won the American Inns of Court National Trial Championship and has been cited as one of the best closers in a courtroom. His dynamic closing argument style has been called by one federal jurist “powerful, engaging and simply mesmerizing.” Mr. Huish's background includes a great depth of academic training as well as courtroom experience. Over the past 25 years Mr. Huish has tried over 300 bench and jury trials in both state and federal court and has personally handled more than 8,000 criminal cases. Mr. Huish holds a Master Degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University with an emphasis on Social Psychology and a Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego. He is a member of the National Order of Barristers and is a California Certified Criminal Law Specialist. As a featured speaker for the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys he holds the distinction of being one of the highest ranked speakers in that organization's history. His recent presentations have included “Empowering a Jury to Say Not Guilty,” “The Psychology of Successful Cross,” “Historical Closing Arguments,” “Advanced Story Telling Techniques Before a Jury,” "The Psychology of Voir Dire," “Demonstrative Evidence in Closing,” “The Psychology of Successful Opening Statements,” “John Adams and The Boston Massacre Trial,” and a presentation entitled “Winning with Nothing: Finding different ways to win when you have nothing.”
 
Mr. Huish is a former deputy district attorney and deputy public defender in Orange County, California. In private practice his high-profile cases include noted celebrities, politicians, professional athletes, and Fortune 500 executives. He specializes in complex criminal cases, white collar crime, and sex cases, and has successfully handled one of the largest fraud cases in the history of California. Mr. Huish has represented defendants in controversial cases such as the San Bernardino terrorist attacks.
 
Mr Huish lives and practices criminal defense in Mission Viejo, California. He is the father of four daughters and a son.

Travel Cancellation/Fee
The airline portion of the travel package is nonrefundable. In addition, any cancellation after September 11, 2019, will be assessed a $250.00 cancellation fee in addition to non-refundable airline costs. Airfare subject to change until travel paid in full.
